Assalamualaykum Mufti Saheb..

A woman’s husband passes away. She is at present in Iddath.

Her mother is 92 years old and completely incapable of moving.

Will it be permissable for the woman in Iddath to go and visit her mother who lives 7/8 kilometres away?

As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible for a woman who is performing her ʿiddah due to the death of her husband to visit her elderly mother provided that she returns home before half of the night has passed. It is not permissible for her to spend the night at any other house besides her place of residence.[1]

Please note, this ruling is in regard to a woman who is performing ʿiddah due to the death of her husband. The rules for a woman performing ʿiddah due to divorce differ. If information is needed regarding that, please submit a different query.
