MAKTAB PROGRAM (WEEKDAY AND WEEKEND)
What is Maktab?
Maktab is Tawheed Center’s after school Quran and Islamic Studies program. It is open to boys and girls of ages 5-12.
Maktab consists of two periods – One period is dedicated to learning the proper method of reciting the Glorious Quran with proper Tajweed, and the other period focuses on Islamic Studies.
Why Maktab?
In this day and age, our children are facing constant challenges to their iman. The goal of the maktab program is for students to, inshaAllah, strengthen their iman from young age and to forge what will inshaAllah become a life life connection with the masjid.
Maktab also serves as a great stepping stone into the hifz program. In fact, over 10 Tawheed Center Hifz School graduates began their Quranic education in the maktab program. Maktab students are taught tajweed by some of the same teachers that will teach them in the hifz program, which allows them to be prepared for the standards required in hifz while also gaining familiarity witht he teachers.
Curriculum
Quran teachers use an expanded version of the Noorani Qa’idah to teach the children how to read the Quran. This is a comprehensive book that starts from a very basic level and gradually teaches the students the rules of tajweed. There are several worksheets and examples to help the students absorb the material. The Islamic Studies teachers use the Tasheel Series of textbooks from South Africa. The Tasheel Series was prepared by the Jamiatul Ulama of South Africa and has since been used in maktabs and schools. The textbooks have continued to gain popularity and are used extensively. The series includes individual textbooks (based on level) for Qur’anic recitation, Hadeeth, Fiqh, Aqaaid, Akhlaaq and Aadaab.
The Tasheel Series is used due to its content, which is both informative and child friendly. It includes graphics, color, and activities. Currently, schools around the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa and neighboring countries, Malawi, Thailand, the Middle East, and India are using it.
