Yes zakat is due on 401(k),
The choice is either you pay now or defer till after retirement,
if you pay annually the obligation will be fulfilled and if you wish to defer till after retirement or if you gain access to funds pre-retirement, you will pay a lump sum for all previous years.
Assalamu alaikum, will there be a group from the masjid that will be going for Hajj 2023. Please kindly direct me on whom to contact for inquiry about Hajj. Jazakullah khair
Salam alaikom imam can I ask you one question so I read tahajjud sometimes and I had a dream after when I went to sleep that my dad got my a gift of new shoes white with a little bit of pink but I said to him why did he bring it I already have it I told him I don’t want it , someone told him I had a hole in my shoes I was wearing black shoes but I I told them there was no hole they are lying and I also saw a new hand bag which was pink and white to is this a fake dream that means nothing at all ?
Asalamu alaykum. Does everyone who has a nisab amount owe a separate sadaqah tul Fitr? For example, if the husband pays on behalf of the wife and kids because he has a nisab amount, does the wife also pay a separate amount if she has the nisab amount of her own wealth?
If the husband/father is supporting the household (wife children etc), and he dispenses on behalf of everyone then this will be valid. However, if you or the children are independent and are not being supported by your husband/father, then the fitr is not valid. Independent individuals should dispense their own fitr.
What is the ruling on buying a house in the USA? Is Conventional mortgage haraam? If so, are there any Islamic financing options available that are compliant with Shareeah?
I have a question regarding the inheritance of my brother.
We were three brothers, and my elder brother has two sons. 2 years back, my elder brother passed away. At the time family was mourning and we did not bring up the topic of inheritance. My father was alive at the time. My father then passed away 1 year back. Now that the topic of inheritance has come up, me and my younger brother believe that we have a share in our brother’s inheritance through our father. We believe our father (since he was alive at the time of our brother’s death) was entitled to 1/6th portion of our brother’s inheritance. And since he is not alive anymore, that 1/6th portion would then go to our father’s children (which would be me and my younger brother).
My nephews (children of my elder brother) now say that we do not have any claim on inheritance from their father as the person to have actual claim would be their grandfather (our father) and since he is no longer alive, he would not have a share. They also say that any claim on inheritance should have been brought forward before their grandfather’s (our father’s) demise and that their grandfather would not have wanted a penny from their father’s money. But no one can know what he did or did not want.

Message from Salaheddine to the Imam and Committee of the Mosque:
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatu Allah wa barakatuh
This is your brother Salaheddine from Morocco, a former brother who used to give Khutbah of Jumuaa from time to time in a Mosque in Fargo, ND, USA.
My message to the imam, brothers of Daawa, and brothers of the committee: if there is any dispute between brothers in the mosque, reconcile and fix between them with justice, and make Douaa so Allah help you in that and in everything.
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Shall I not tell you something that is better than the status of fasting, prayer and charity?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “Reconciling in a case of discord, for the evil of discord is the shaver, I do not say: it shaves the hair, but rather it shaves the religion.”
Show this message to brothers who are in dispute, so they know what to do.
You already make a lot of effort for the sake of Allah, Alhamdu Lillah, continue what you’re doing and make more taqwa in that, and make sure it’s in accordance to the Koran and Hadith.
My douaa to the committee and brothers of Daawa is: “May Allah make you strong and give you success in teaching new comers to the mosque, may Allah teach you good knowledge of Quran and Hadith to make this task easy for you, may Allah give you better jobs so you have enough money and time to spend for daawa and teaching of new Muslims.” They need your help in learning the knowledge of ISLAM and you need the good (حسنات) deeds of teaching them in the day of judgement.
My message to all Brothers and sisters in the mosque and other people who Enter into Islam: to make Duaa to Allah every time they need something or every time they are stuck, because Allah SWT is the one who knows their situation, He also know if that thing they want is good for them or not. But they need to wait for the answer, because Allah knows when it’s the best time to answer their Duaa’s.
Another important teaching of our prophet Mohammad prayers and peace be upon him is: thinking good of Allah SWT: that Allah will help you enter heaven: قَالَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ بِثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ: لَا يَمُوتَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَّا وَهُوَ يُحْسِنُ الظَّنَّ بِاللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ , The Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said, three days before he died: “No one of you should die except thinking positively of Allah.”
Make Shuraa between brothers if you should print this and post it on a board, or email it to Muslims or post it in the website, or deliver it during a speech.

If a Christian or a Jew slaughters a permissible animal by saying Bismillah Allah Hu Akbar, will the meat of this animal be considered zabhia or halal ? What if a kufar does the same thing ?
We have two Jummah Salahs. The first starts at 1:45 and the second at 3:15. In the winter, when we switch to Standard time, the timings are 12:45 and 1:45.
Assalaamualaikum. If a person is in possession of the nisab for one Islamic year, they will have to give zakat. The 401(k) will be added to a person’s assets. After this, the person’s liabilities will be deducted. If the remaining amount exceeds the nisab, the person will have to pay zakat. More information on the nisab is below.
The niṣāb is a benchmark that is used to determine whether a person is considered self-sufficient or needy. The niṣāb for someone who has gold only and no silver or other currency is 87.48 grams (7.5 tolas). The niṣāb for someone who has silver only and no gold or other currency is 612.36 grams (52.5 tolas). If a person had only gold or silver (not both) and no other currency, they would not have to pay zakāh unless the amount exceeded the niṣābs stated above. Practically speaking, it is very rare that a person has only gold or silver. Usually they have some gold, some silver, and some cash. Along with these three, sometimes, a person will also have merchandise/inventory. When there is a mix of these things, the gold niṣāb value is used. Since the value is tied to the gold price, it changes. The current value of the niṣāb can be found at darulfiqh.com under the indices section.
If the total zakātable assets minus liabilities exceed the value of the niṣāb, and the person is in possession of this amount for one Islāmic year, zakāt is due.

Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh,
I know of a sister who is in need of money to help pay for her living expenses, especially her rent. She comes to the Tawheed Center. How can I get her connect to zakat funds within the community/zakat collected by the Tawheed Center? Is there some kind of a form and/or paperwork that I could share with her and/or help her with? I know she does not have an email address, and I am guessing she does not have easy access to a printer, but I would love to provide her with perhaps a hard copy “application form,” or some kind of form that she could complete for purposes of getting her “into the system,” i.e., getting her access to the disbursement of zakat funds. Please advise me on how she should be assisted in this regard.
Assalaamu ‘Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,
Please advise if I’m required to pay zakat on my 401k If I’m still employed with my employer.

Asalam Aleikum Imam,
On the question of the 401K , do you have to pay Zakat on any amount? Or do you have to accumulate (reach) certain amount to pay Zakat? Thank you
